Reputation for Excellence in Education
Alsip is served by a quality public education system that has a reputation for excellence. Four grade schools and two junior high schools are located within the Village limits, and high school students attend one of the public or private high schools, just outside of the Village.
Alsip offers a unique combination of formal education within a personalized environment. Curriculum and technology are continuously upgraded to meet student needs. Students who function more successfully in a nontraditional learning environment are encouraged to take advantage of various other programs.
Alsip is home to the IBEW/NECA Technical Institute for Electrical Workers, The Sprinkler Fitters & Apprentices Local #28 and the Plasters Union Local #5. These apprentice schools attract students from all around the Chicagoland area and prepare them to be the construction workforce of the future.
Several outstanding private and religious schools are also located nearby, and Moraine Valley Community College serves Alsip's continuing education needs. The campuses of many of Illinois' top rated colleges (including St. Xavier University, Prairie State College, Governors State University, The University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Chicago, DePaul University, Loyola University and Northwestern University) are all within an easy commute.
The Alsip Merrionette Park Library District serves the area with an extensive collection of materials, publications and an ongoing schedule of programs. The Library provides an extensive reference collection, and provides computer and Internet access at the library.
